Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Kirk Cousins is approaching another significant career milestone, entering Week 9 of the 2026 NFL season just 176 passing yards away from reaching 47,000 for his career.
The 38-year-old veteran has accumulated 46,824 passing yards during his NFL career, ranking 16th on the league’s all-time passing list during the Super Bowl era.
But Cousins has an opportunity to accomplish more than simply reaching another major milestone when the Raiders visit the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
He is also closing in on Russell Wilson, who ranks 15th all-time with 46,966 career passing yards.
Cousins needs just 143 yards to surpass Wilson and move into 15th place in NFL history. With 176 yards, he’ll also become the latest quarterback to join the exclusive 47,000-yard club.
And considering his production this season, both milestones appear well within reach.
Through eight games in 2026, Cousins ranks third in the NFL with 2,124 passing yards, averaging 265.5 yards per game.
He’s also thrown 19 touchdown passes against just five interceptions, compiling an impressive 101.4 passer rating while helping Las Vegas remain competitive in the AFC West.
Cousins enters Sunday’s matchup coming off one of his best performances of the season.
In a thrilling 38-33 victory over the New York Jets, the veteran completed 19 of 26 passes for 247 yards and three touchdowns without an interception, posting a remarkable 141.0 passer rating.
The victory snapped a four-game losing streak and improved the Raiders to 4-4, placing them third in the AFC West.
Now, Las Vegas travels to face a San Francisco team sitting atop the NFC West, presenting another important test for Cousins and the Raiders’ offense.
For Cousins, the approaching milestones represent another chapter in a career defined by consistency and longevity.
Originally drafted by Washington in 2012, Cousins developed into a productive NFL starter before spending six seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. He later joined the Atlanta Falcons before continuing his career with Las Vegas.
Throughout those stops, Cousins has consistently produced passing yards at a level few quarterbacks in NFL history have matched.
Only 15 quarterbacks currently sit ahead of him on the Super Bowl-era passing yardage leaderboard.
At the very top is Tom Brady, whose astonishing 89,214 career passing yards remain the NFL standard.
Drew Brees ranks second with 80,358, followed by Peyton Manning (71,940), Brett Favre (71,838) and Aaron Rodgers (68,145).
Matthew Stafford, Ben Roethlisberger, Philip Rivers, Matt Ryan and Dan Marino round out the top 10.
Cousins still has considerable ground to cover before approaching those legendary names, but his immediate goal is much closer.
Just 143 yards separate him from Russell Wilson, while 176 yards would put him in the 47,000-yard club.
With Cousins averaging more than 265 passing yards per game this season, Sunday in San Francisco could become another memorable afternoon in his lengthy NFL career.
