Game Notes: Washington Commanders at Kansas City Chiefs (Oct 27, 2025)

The Washington Commanders travel to Kansas City on Monday night, October 27, to face the Chiefs at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, with kickoff set for 8:15 PM ET on ABC. It’s a rematch of their 2021 meeting, when Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs rolled to a 31–13 victory. Kansas City has dominated the all-time series, winning nine of the last ten matchups between the two franchises.

Washington enters the game at 3–4, losers of two straight and three of their last four on the road. Despite flashes of offensive brilliance from rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, defensive inconsistency and turnovers have plagued the Commanders. Kansas City, meanwhile, comes in at 4–3, having won two straight and three of their last four overall, including a 31–0 rout of the Las Vegas Raiders last week.

Oddsmakers have the Chiefs as 11.5-point favorites, with an over/under of 47.5. Kansas City’s combination of elite quarterback play and stingy defense has made them one of the most balanced teams in the league. The Chiefs are allowing just 17.7 points per game, nearly a touchdown fewer than Washington, while outscoring opponents by a +62 point differential through seven weeks.

Daniels has been the Commanders’ engine, accounting for over 5,400 total yards this season — 4,390 through the air with 30 touchdown passes and another 1,026 yards rushing with seven scores. His top target, Terry McLaurin, continues to shine with 96 catches for 1,323 yards and 16 touchdowns, ranking among the league leaders in every major receiving category. But the rookie quarterback will be sidelined Monday with a hamstring injury, a massive blow for Washington’s offense.

On the other side, Patrick Mahomes remains the gold standard at his position. The two-time MVP has thrown for 4,607 yards and 31 touchdowns this season, extending his streak to 17 straight games with at least one passing score. Tight end Travis Kelce has been his reliable go-to, catching 110 passes for 998 yards and four touchdowns, while Kareem Hunt provides balance on the ground with 845 rushing yards and nine scores.

Mahomes has been dominant in primetime, boasting a 29–12 record as a starter under the lights, while Kansas City has gone 7–3 in its last ten night games. The Commanders, by contrast, are 4–6 in their last ten under the lights and just 3–7 against the spread in their last ten road contests.

Injuries have hit Washington hard, with Daniels and tight end Colson Yankoff both out, and kicker Matt Gay and defensive tackle Daron Payne questionable. Kansas City will be without tackle Josh Simmons for personal reasons, but otherwise enters relatively healthy.

The Commanders currently sit second in the NFC East, while the Chiefs are third in the AFC West but remain within striking distance of the division lead. With Daniels sidelined and Kansas City heating up, the matchup looks lopsided on paper. The Chiefs have averaged 26.6 points per game and continue to dominate at Arrowhead, where Mahomes has lost just four times in his career.

Expect Kansas City to keep rolling behind Mahomes’ precision and a defense that’s quietly become one of the league’s best. The Commanders’ defense has struggled to contain explosive plays, allowing over 364 yards per game, and could be in for a long night against the league’s most creative offense.

Prediction: Chiefs 34, Commanders 19. Kansas City extends its win streak to three, while Washington’s season slips further into uncertainty before a divisional matchup with the Giants next week.
