Christian McCaffrey Gets TD Trifecta — 4th Player To Do It (Run, Pass, Catch)

A change of scenery hasn’t changed Christian McCaffrey. The superstar running back has taken his record-breaking game with him to San Francisco from North Carolina. And Sunday he made one of the rarest of single-game triples: rushing for a touchdown, catching a touchdown and passing for a touchdown.

McCaffery led his 49ers to a blowout 31-14 win over the rival LA Rams during which the ex-Stanford star became just the fourth player to score a touchdown passing, rushing and receiving in a single game.

“Everyone knows how good of a player he is. I just like how consistent he is, he’s under control and he’s a very smart player. Even though he makes a lot of plays, it’s the consistency of how he plays his game. He’s a great guy to have,” head coach Kyle Shanahan said after the win.

PLAYERS TO RUSH, PASS AND CATCH A TOUCHDOWN – Single Game, Regular Season (Super Bowl Era)
Christian McCaffery (October 30, 2022)
Ladainian Tomlinson (October 16, 2005)
David Patten (October 21, 2001)
Walter Payton (October 21, 1979)

Strange how all four took place in the back half of October.
