Belichick Bows Out, YouTube TV Restores ESPN, Broncos Lose Dobbins, QB Questions in New York and Atlanta

Coaching News

Bill Belichick officially confirmed that he has “not and will not pursue any NFL head coaching vacancies.” The announcement ends months of speculation around the longtime coach’s future following his departure from the Patriots. At 73, Belichick is not seeking a return to the sideline in an official capacity this season.

In New York, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn told reporters he is “evaluating everything” following the team’s latest loss to the Patriots. That includes the quarterback position, which has underwhelmed throughout the season. The Jets offense continues to struggle, adding pressure to Glenn in his first season at the helm.

Meanwhile in Atlanta, Falcons head coach Raheem Morris addressed a viral clip involving rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr. that was interpreted as a lack of support from the team. Morris rejected the narrative, calling it manufactured and untrue, and reiterated the strong backing Penix receives from the coaching staff and teammates. The Falcons are 3–6 as Penix continues to adjust in his first NFL season.

Adding to the rumor mill, Jay Gruden shared that his brother Jon Gruden would be “very interested” in the New York Giants head coaching job, should it become available. Jon Gruden last coached in the NFL in 2021 before resigning from the Raiders.

Injuries

The Denver Broncos are expected to place running back J.K. Dobbins on injured reserve due to a significant foot injury, per league sources. Dobbins had only recently begun to gain momentum in Denver’s backfield, and this latest injury continues a string of setbacks for the former Ravens back.

The Detroit Lions will be without tight end Sam LaPorta on Sunday night against the Eagles due to a back injury. LaPorta has been a central component of Detroit’s passing game, and his absence creates a notable gap for Jared Goff and the offense in prime time.

The Buffalo Bills also face a key absence this weekend, as tight end Dalton Kincaid has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers with a hamstring issue. Kincaid had emerged as a reliable target for Josh Allen in recent weeks.

Jaylon Johnson was listed as questionable for this weekend’s Bears game after his first full practice since undergoing surgery in Week 2 to repair a sports hernia. His return would bolster an improving Chicago defense.

The Vikings will be without edge rusher Jonathan Greenard this Sunday. Greenard has been dealing with a nagging issue and was ruled out ahead of the weekend clash.

The Washington Commanders continue to struggle with injuries, leading the league in games lost to injury this season. The attrition across both sides of the ball has been a key factor in Washington’s underwhelming performance and ongoing reset under new ownership.

Media and Broadcast News

Google and Disney have reached a deal to restore ESPN, ABC, and other Disney-owned channels to YouTube TV. The carriage agreement ends a multi-day blackout that impacted NFL fans across the country at a critical point in the season. Access to ESPN’s slate of Monday Night Football games and other NFL coverage is now restored for YouTube TV subscribers.

Team and Player Updates

The Dallas Cowboys are poised to debut undrafted rookie cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. against the Raiders this week. The team has spoken highly of Revel’s progress in practice and sees his debut as a potential depth boost for the secondary in the absence of several veterans.

In a gesture of community support, Josh Allen will once again wear a custom New Era cap designed by patients at Buffalo’s Oishei Children’s Hospital for the Bills’ game this weekend. The cap, created by twin six-year-olds who spent nearly two months in NICU care, will be auctioned to benefit the Patricia Allen Fund.

Coaching Spotlight

Vance Joseph is earning recognition for helping turn around the Denver Broncos’ defense after a rough start to the 2025 season. The Broncos’ unit, which struggled early, has regained form under Joseph’s second tenure as Denver’s defensive coordinator—bolstering the team during a midseason revival. The improvement reflects Joseph’s adjustments in personnel groupings and in-game communication, helping Denver stay competitive in a tightly contested AFC race.
