Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is approaching a significant career milestone, entering Week 9 of the 2026 NFL season just two sacks away from reaching 300 for his career.

Prescott has been sacked 298 times since entering the NFL in 2016, putting him second on Dallas’ all-time list during the Super Bowl era, behind legendary quarterback Roger Staubach.

Staubach leads the franchise with 301 sacks taken, followed by Prescott (298) and Hall of Famer Troy Aikman (259).

That means Prescott is just three sacks away from tying Staubach’s listed total and four away from surpassing it! (LOL)

It’s an unusual milestone for a quarterback who has spent more than a decade establishing himself as one of the franchise’s most productive passers.

While passing yards, touchdowns and victories typically define quarterback greatness, sacks taken offer a different perspective on a player’s career. They reflect not only offensive line protection but also playing style, decision-making, mobility and the number of passing opportunities accumulated over time.

For Prescott, the approaching milestone is largely a reflection of longevity.

The Cowboys quarterback has appeared in 147 regular-season games, throwing for 38,035 yards and 257 touchdowns during his career.

Despite approaching 300 career sacks, Prescott has actually done a relatively good job of avoiding pressure this season.

Through eight games in 2026, he has been sacked just 11 times, ranking 26th among NFL quarterbacks in sacks taken.

However, his most recent outing was a difficult one.

Prescott was sacked four times during Dallas’ 33-30 overtime loss to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 8, a result that dropped the Cowboys to 3-5.

Those four sacks represented more than one-third of his season total and brought him within striking distance of the 300-sack milestone.

Now, Prescott and the Cowboys head to Indianapolis for a Week 9 matchup against the Colts on Sunday, November 8.

Dallas enters the contest in second place in the NFC East, looking to rebound from its disappointing loss to Arizona and keep its postseason hopes alive.

The matchup also presents an opportunity for Prescott to move closer to another franchise record, although it’s one he’d undoubtedly prefer to avoid.

Staubach, Aikman, Tony Romo and Danny White all endured their share of punishment during lengthy careers in Dallas, but Prescott’s combination of durability and passing volume has steadily pushed him toward the top of the franchise’s sack rankings.

Interestingly, Prescott has already been sacked more times than Aikman, Romo and White, despite playing fewer games than several of those franchise icons.

The numbers illustrate how much the quarterback position has evolved, particularly with modern offenses relying heavily on high-volume passing attacks.

For Prescott, reaching 300 career sacks would represent another milestone in a decade-long career with the Cowboys. But the more important number Sunday will be the one in the win column.

Dallas needs victories far more than individual records, and keeping Prescott upright could be a major factor in getting its season back on track.
