Following a strong pre-season, the Patriots have named Mac Jones the starter and at the same time have let go of Cam Newton.<\/p>\n
The former MVP missed a COVID-19 protocol last week and while he started every pre-season game, Jones was simply better and more efficient.<\/p>\n
And with Jones, you know what you are getting: An unathletic-ish Tom Brady-style QB who can complete passes and execute the offense.<\/p>\n
Newton remains an unknown sum, capable of higher highs and lower lows, and can be a distraction off the field.<\/p>\n
Belichick now has his guy, let’s see what he can do when it gets real in less than two weeks. The Patriots are a playoff team. <\/p>\n
As for Newton, he will have to accept his role as a backup to stay in the league. Will he?<\/p>\n
